Helen Dena Vetter, age 94, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday July 31, 2014 in Sebring, Florida. Her father, William Vetter, was a farmer and her mother Lyda a housewife. She enlisted in the Army in January, 1945 as a nurse and served as a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp. during World War, II in the Philippines until the war ended. She felt led of the Lord to be a missionary with Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) and sailed for West Africa in 1952. She served the Lord for twenty years as a nurse, ministering to the African people's physical needs as well as spiritual, always sharing the love of Christ. Helen came to the SIM Retirement Village in Sebring, Florida in 1974 as the first nurse, opening up a medical clinic. She retired here in 1985 and continued serving the Lord at Bible Fellowship Church. She is survived by two brothers, Herbert and Myron. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at 10:00am in the SIM Chapel, 900 Andes Drive, Sebring, Florida. Visitation with the family will be one hour preceding the service in the chapel. Interment will be at 2:00pm at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Avon Park, FL.
