Grace Alinda Plants, born on June 3, 1947, in Jesup, Georgia, passed away on October 14, 2024, in Sebring, Florida. She was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Patricia Owens. Grace moved to Florida in 1994, relocating from St. Simons Island, GA, and quickly became a cherished member of the Sebring community.
Throughout her life, Grace was dedicated to serving others. She made a lasting impact through her involvement with organizations such as NU-Hope of Highlands County, Good Shepherd Hospice, Coastal Area Agency on Aging, and the Lifeline Program at Florida Hospital Sebring. She was also an active member of Toastmasters International, the Florida Council on Aging, and the Kiwanis Club, Her contributions were felt far and wide, and her dedication to her community was truly remarkable.
Grace will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her devoted husband of 18 years, Gary A. Plants; her children, L. Keith Tomey III (Nancy) of Coral Springs, FL, Troy Tomey (Alma) of Pembroke Pines, FL, Patrice Carthan (Jerome) of Decatur, GA; her siblings, Frank Owens, Jr. (Carolyn) of Jesup, GA, Debbie Davenport of Meridian, MS, and Joy Batten of Avon Park, FL; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Allison, Austin, Kelsey, Derek, Alexus, and Ashlynn. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Grace was known for her generosity, thoughtfulness, and kind heart. She had a passion for travel, reading, and gardening, and took great joy in preparing delicious meals for her family. Her world-famous biscuits will never be forgotten. A lifelong music lover, especially of Elvis Presley, Grace also enjoyed cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs. Her social circle was important to her, and she cherished time spent with friends, particularly her “Girls Night Out” group. Above all, she loved to spoil her grandchildren, creating memories they will carry with them forever.
Organized, smart, and always thinking of others, Grace touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A service to celebrate Grace’s life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 11:00. Visitation will start at 10:00 AM. Services at Stephenson Nelson Funeral Home Chapel, 4001 Sebring Parkway, Sebring, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the American Lung Association.
