Geraldine Newsome, born on November 27, 1932, in Quitman, GA, peacefully passed away on May 28, 2024, in Avon Park, FL. She was the beloved daughter of Rosa Lee Bryant. She called this area home since 1957 moving from Quitman, GA.

Geraldine was a pillar of strength and kindness, with a heart as vast as the oceans and a spirit that shone brighter than the sun. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her loving children Vera Huggins (Terry), Mattie Jackson (Robert), Rosa Peterson (Pete), Rena Matthews (Anthony), Edwin Newsome, and Felecia Jones (Lacorey). Additionally, Geraldine is survived by her siblings Thomas Bryant and Mable Coleman, a host of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Geraldine was preceded in death by her mother Rosa Lee Bryant, daughter Cynthia Roberts, daughter Elaine Price (Lewis), son Terrence Matthews, and brothers James Bryant Jr and Cleveland Bryant. Although they have journeyed ahead, their memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved Geraldine.

Geraldine was a dedicated member of the Baptist community, finding solace and strength in her faith. She enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, and baking – her sweet potato pies were a favorite among her family and friends. Gardening brought her joy, and she reveled in the role of a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother.

As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many, may we find solace in the memories shared and the love she bestowed upon us. Geraldine Newsome's legacy of love, wisdom and kindness will continue to shine brightly through the generations she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
