Gerald “Jerry” Allen Hansen, of Lake Placid, Florida, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the age of 81. Jerry was born in Queens, New York on January of 1936. He attended Valley Stream High School. In 1956 he married his sweetheart, Beryll Carter and immediately started a family. The couple had three children. He spent most of his adult life living and working on Long Island, New York. He retired in 2001 and relocated to Lake Placid, Florida with his wife. Jerry was a self-made man. His love of American made cars both big and small started at a young age. When he was old enough he pieced together a stock car and began racing locally. His knowledge of all workings of cars led him to start a towing company and later a boutique auto parts store specializing in hard to find wheel covers. He often travelled the country seeking a rare wheel cover. His grateful customers affectionately named his shop, “Hubcap Heaven”. Jerry was a kind man who always believed in helping his fellow man. He would stop in any weather to help a stranded motorist change a tire, push their car off the roadway and get the owner to safety. His friends and neighbors knew him for his incredible ability to fix anything. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Beryll of 61 years of marriage and their children: Gary Hansen (Patricia), Lorraine Holt and, Karen Huang (Robert); six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; brother, Donald R. Hansen; sister, Carole Diaferio; five nieces and six nephews. He was proceeded in death by his brother, William Hansen; his parents Albert & Lois Hansen; his father in-law, Edward Carter.
