George Herman Meeker died peacefully, April 22, 2010, in his home with family by his side. George was born on August 6, 1925, the son of Ruby L. and Jerry C. Meeker, of Steuben, New York. He graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1943 and worked on the family farm. On March 3, 1945, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Sizer of Barneveld, New York. Soon after, George took a job with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation where he worked for 34 years. He and Betty moved to Holland Patent, New York and raised three sons, George Scott, Charles Jerry and Kerry Dane. Scott lives with his wife Beverly, in Old Forge, New York. Chuck lives in Milwaukie, Oregon with his wife, Patty. Kerry lives in Avon Park, Florida with his wife, Candice. George and Betty spent 30 years in Florida, enjoying golf and cards. He was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed his grandchildren dearly. He is survived by his wife Betty, his 3 sons and their children. His grandchildren include George Scott, Jr., Denise McKeen, Jessica Meeker, Gregory Meeker, Lisa Beatty, C. Josef Meeker and Erin Underwood. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Courtney, Chelsea, Casey, Kelly, Ian, Amelia, Pierce and Asher. He is survived by two nephews, Richard LeClar and Gerald LeClar, his sister-in-law Norma Ure and two nephews Brian J. Ure and Dennis J. Ure. He was preceded in death by his sister, Audra LeClar. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park, Florida with Dr. Cecil Hess officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend. George will be buried with his parents at Carmichael Hill Cemetery in Steuben, New York. Another memorial service will be held at the cemetery later in the summer.
