George Congdon Mayhew Jr. (76) of Lake Placid, Florida, born on August 26, 1948, in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025. He was preceded in death by his loving parents,
George C. Mayhew, Sr., and Anne M. Mayhew (nee Anthony) as well as his younger brother, David H.
Mayhew, who recently passed away on April 2, 2025.
George leaves behind his constant companion and the love of his life, Shelly Roy, as well as his siblings,
Mark (Debbie) Mayhew and Barbara (Mike) Flanagan (nee Mayhew), sister-in-law Julie (David)
Mayhew, his beloved nieces and nephews, and Shelly’s grandson, Riley.
George graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University and worked for
several years under government contract at NASA in Cleveland, Ohio. After his electrical engineering
career ended, George continued working independently with computer technology. He had a passion for
capturing the beauty of the world through both photography and music. He especially loved playing local
gigs with friends on his harmonica. He loved rock & roll and jazz but had a special affinity for listening to
and playing the blues.
George was an active member of the community, enjoying a 35-year friendship with Bill W., and
supported many people on their personal journeys throughout the years. He was blessed with a large
network of friends who he always credited with supporting him as well. His compassion and willingness
to help others were among his best qualities, and his entire family was extremely proud of his
accomplishments. He left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched. He embodied the essence of
kindness, leaving a legacy of love and service.
George's kindness and love extended to all living creatures, particularly his beloved dog, Davina, who was
a faithful friend and brought immeasurable comfort to his life.
A Celebration of George’s life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
you consider making a donation to a charity of your choosing in memory of George.
