George L. Matteson

George L. Matteson, age 69, of Avon Park, Florida, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018.  He was born June 6, 1949 in Erie, Pennsylvania to George D. Matteson and Marie A. Webster.  George proudly served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. After the Marines he worked as a track supervisor for the railroad and drove school bus for over 12 years. In retirement he enjoyed his animals, working around his house and was a member of the VFW. He had been a Florida resident since 1998, coming from Spartansburg, Pennsylvania.  Survivors include his Wife – Mary Matteson of Avon Park, FL; Daughters – Taunya St. John (Randy Gilman) of Okeechobee, FL; Michelle Vanderhoff (Charles) of Mulberry, FL; Melissa Montigny (Eric) of Bartow, FL; Sisters – Elaine Rudy (Joe) of Guys Mills, PA; Marlena Wilhelm (Wilfred) of Centerville, PA; Karen Downer (John) of Roanoke, VA; 10 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his Parents; Sons – David Matteson; Bruce Matteson; Baby Matteson; Brother – Robin Matteson; and Grandsons – Michael and Nicholas St. John. Visitation will be Friday, September 28,2018 at 1:00 p.m.and Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Stephenson Nelson Funeral Home.
