George W. Mangold, age 87, of Avon Park, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and five children on April 13, 2018. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 12, 1931. He is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Donna Mangold.
George graduated from DeLaSalle High School in Detroit, Michigan in 1950. He then joined the Marines and served in the Korean war. George worked as a Detroit Police Officer for ten years prior to his career as a Special Agent with Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms. He retired from ATF in Louisville, Kentucky in December of 1985. Upon retirement he was awarded the Treasury Department Gallation Award, given to Agents whose service of at least twenty years has been without blemish. In 1987 he was employed as an Investigator/Auditor with the Kentucky Real Estate Commission which he continued until 1998.
In 2000, George & Marlene moved to Highlands Ridge, a golf community in Avon Park, Florida. George was a special person, a man of his word, funny, kind and brave. He was a loving husband, a proud father and always the life of the party. He lived his life with no regrets, had a heart of gold and was loved by many.
George will be deeply missed by his faithful dog Oliver, his loving wife Marlene (Meddaugh); children, Michelle, Thomas, Jill, George and Marcy Mangold, Jeff Spevacek; grandchildren, Elissa Decker, Cortney Henry, William Pfeffer, Wesley Malusek and Joseph Gatsos; great grandchildren, Dylan and Adelyn Decker and Raylan Henry; sister, Judy (Dennis) Raczak; many nieces, nephews and dear family friends.
