George 'Duke' Edwards III, age 73, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016 in Sebring, FL. He was born on September 5, 1942 in Kankakee, Illinois to the late George P. and Gertrude (Parent) Edwards Jr. He married Barbara Sides in January of 1966 and recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. Duke was an electrician by trade and started Pyramid Electric in 1978, where the business enjoyed a tenure of 25 years, employing hundreds of electricians and working throughout Kankakee and Will counties. He was on the Board of Directors for N.E.C.A., a national electrical contractors association. He was a long-time member of the Kankakee Country Club and served as Board President, as well as many other club-related committees. Duke's other primary interest was Bridge, where he earned the title of Life Master. He and Barb moved to Avon Park, Florida in 2006 upon his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; one son, Duke Jr. and his wife Denise; grandchildren Andrew Edwards (Laura Lehnus) and Alexandra Edwards; four brothers, Donnie (Sharon), David (Kim), Dean (Marla), Daniel, and one sister, Pat (Bill Rutherford).
