Gary Arthur Plants, born January 21, 1944, passed away on March 6, 2026. Originally from West Virginia, Gary later lived in Michigan before eventually settling in Sebring, Florida, where he met and married the love of his life, Grace Plants. The two shared 20 wonderful years of marriage before Grace’s passing in October 2024.

Gary proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years before beginning a long career with General Motors, where he later retired.

He was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Gary loved hunting and fishing, cooking for family and friends—especially his famous jalapeño cornbread and barbecue—and spending time playing the guitar and singing.

Gary is survived by his daughter, April Mangrum; his brother, Lyle Plants; his stepchildren, L. Keith Tomey III (Nancy), Troy Tomey (Alma), and Patrice Carthan (Jerome) ; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace Plants, and his parents, Arthur and Flora Plants.

Per Gary’s request, there will be no services.

He will be remembered for his love of music, good food, the outdoors, and the many memories he shared with those who knew him.
