Garret Peter Zeegers 62, of Sebring Florida, passed away peacefully on February 8th, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on April 5,1962 in Syracuse, NY to Bert and Sally Zeegers.
Pete Zeegers was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. Pete was known for his kindness, wisdom, humor, generosity— and long stories! He graduated from Leon high school in Tallahassee. During his time Leon Highschool he played Football, basketball and his most loved sport, Baseball where he is now in the hall of fame and still a legend to this day at Leon High. According to his Leon High baseball coach Ronnie Youngblood "Pete was one of the great ones; not only in his athletic career, but in his professional career as well." Coach Youngblood was there to assist Pete while he was being drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays. However, he decided to take the college route. Pete first attended Brevard community college where he received a baseball scholarship. During his time on the Brevard community college baseball team, he excelled in both relief pitching and hitting, which helped to land him a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Oklahoma. While attending the University of Oklahoma, one of many accomplishments was relief pitching on the “All big 8 tournament team” his junior year, and has his name engraved on the All-American wall at The Anderson All- American Plaza in Norman Oklahoma. After college he dedicated his career to the Juvenile Justice field, following in his father’s footsteps. He quickly rose through the ranks and became the youngest Assistant Superintendent in the Juvenile Justice Department, working at Volusia House in Daytona Beach. He ended his Juvenile Justice career as a Facility Administrator at Avon Park Youth Academy. Throughout his career, he touched so many lives and mentored many others who now find themselves as leaders in the Juvenile Justice field. He was very involved in his community where he coached Little League baseball, pop Warner football, coached for the special stars and was an active member of the Avon Park Rotary Association. For the past 20 years Pete was an active member of the Board of Directors for the Champion for Children Foundation. He loved, supported, and was proud of his association with this wonderful non- profit organization.
Pete married his beautiful bride Leslie Zeegers, September 19th, 1987 and made unforgettable memories during their 37 years together. They had two wonderful children, two beautiful grandchildren and son-in law who looks up to him like a father. During the last few years of his life, his mother- in- law Linda England dedicated her life to his care. They spent many wonderful afternoons watching every Sooner Sport, past and present together.
He is survived by his wife Leslie Zeegers, daughter Adriann Trimm, (Jordan Trimm), son Garret Zeegers, grandchildren Mallory and Cooper Trimm. As well as, parents, Bert and Sally Zeegers, Siblings, Randy Zeegers, Tommy Zeegers, Kristen Warren, and their spouses, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish his memory and love forever.
A Celebration of life will be held on March 1, 2025 at 1:00pm, at Bible Fellowship Church: 3750 Hammock Rd, Sebring FL 33872. A reception will follow.
Pete will be deeply missed, but his love, values, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who know him.
Donations may be made in his honor, to the Champion for Children foundation or the Leon High school Baseball program.
