Garmon W. "Bill" Longnecker, Sr., age 89, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in Sebring, Florida. He was born on September 21, 1925 in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania to the late Augustine and Florence (Rummel) Longnecker. He was a veteran in the Army Air Corp serving from 1943 to 1946 as a D5 Tech Sergeant. He moved to Sebring in 1990 from Pennsylvania and was a charter member of Whispering Pines Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also sang with the gospel singing group, Pure Harmony. Music and boating were two of his favorite pastimes. He is survived by his children: Garmon Longnecker, Jr. (Belinda) and Claire Torkish (Ken) all of Pennsylvania, step-children: Beverly Plunkett (Layne) of North Carolina and Bernerd Showman (Cindy) of South Carolina, siblings: Warren Longnecker (Marilyn)-Sebring, FL and Sally Miller-California, PA, sister-in-law: Agnes Longnecker-Palm Beach Garden, FL, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife: Gwen Longnecker, brothers: Bob, Wally, Jack, Dave and Sam Longnecker. There will be a funeral service on Monday, April 27, 2015, 11:00am, at Whispering Pines Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Trinkle officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm at Stephenson Nelson Funeral Home. Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made to: Whispering Pines Baptist Church, 303 White Pine Drive, Sebring, FL 33872.
