Frank William Hammond

Frank William (Bill) Hammond After a long battle with early onset Alzheimers, Bill Hammond passed on May 13th. Bill was born in Kearny, New Jersey, on February 10, 1942. He and his family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida when he was 5 years old. He was an enthusiastic Little Leaguer, newsboy and summer worker for a lawn care business. While attending Northside Stranahan Fern Hall High School, he was voted Most Popular Student and Vice President of the Senior Class. He was active in the Hot Rod Club. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corp. serving in Gitmo Bay, Cuba, and participating in the African Goodwill Cruise of 15 foreign ports, crossing the equator 6 times. He worked with the 82nd and 101st Airborne troops, the British Royal Marines, Korea Marines, and the French Foreign Legion. He participated in the JFK Fitness March from Camp LeJuene to Ft. Bragg, and in the underwater training with Submarine SS403, USS Atule. He was honorably discharged from the Marines and thereafter, went to work for his parents in the family owned Insurance Agency. During his time in the Marines, he married Karen Faillace, his high school sweetheart and started a loving family. In 1985, Bill and Karen moved to Avon Park where they played lots of golf at River Greens Golf Course and Bill continued his work in the family business. Bills past times included golfing, boating, fishing, country music and dancing. But most of all he had an undying love for his family, his Country and their history. Bill is survived by his loving wife Karen, his daughter Leona Hammond, his daughter Cheri Scott, Cheris husband Mike Scott and their son Michael William Scott, and also Patricia Best, Bills sister. A celebration of Bills life will be held at 100 p.m. Saturday, May 15th, 2010 at the Casa Del Lago Clubhouse, 2740 Palo Verde Drive, Avon Park, Florida 33825.
