Frank Alvah Donnell

August 4, 1927 — April 18, 2014

Frank Alvah Donnell, of West Bath, died at Florida Hospital in Sebring on April 18, 2014. He was 86 years old. Frank was born on his family's homestead in West Bath on August 4, 1927, and lived there for most of his life. After graduating from Morse High School in 1945, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea before earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Bryant College in Providence, RI. After college he worked for Bath Iron Works as Director of Computer Programming until retiring, after 32 years, in 1982. He remained active throughout his retirement as a member of the First Congregational Church in Wiscasset, the West Bath Grange, Solar Lodge of Masons, Kora Temple, and as Corporator and Trustee of Bath Savings Institution, as well as Treasurer and Trustee of the Plant Memorial Home. He also served as a Selectman for the Town of West Bath, and was President and Treasurer of the West Bath Cemetery Association for over 60 years. During that time he was also the primary caretaker of the cemetery. Frank was an avid chef, gardener, and do-it-yourselfer who always preferred to read a homeowner's guide and take on a project himself rather than hire someone to do the work for him. He enjoyed traveling and being outdoors, and he loved spending time with his two young grandchildren. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 32 years; a daughter and son in law, Jennifer and Gerald Mitchell of West Bath; a son, Jonathan of South Portland; two grandchildren, David and Amelia Mitchell; a niece, Ann Schroeder; and a grandniece, Deirdre Schroeder. Mr. and Mrs. Donnell have been winter residents of Tanglewood in Sebring since 2006. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in Frank's name can be made to the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset and will be earmarked for the Pilgrim Lodge Capital Campaign. Pilgrim Lodge is a UCC summer camp where the Donnell family spent many happy times. Arrangements entrusted to: Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home of Sebring (863) 385-0125 www.stephensonnelsonfh.com
