Fonzie Wayne Smith, Jr.

March 24, 1954 — September 4, 2014

Fonzie "Wayne" Smith On September 4, 2014 Wayne Smith won his victory and has gone home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer. Wayne was born on March 24, 1954 in Galveston, TX to Fonzie Edward and Winnie Mae Smith. He moved to Lake Wales in 1960 with his family and has since remained. Wayne was a wonderful compassionate loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, not only to his family but to others. He was always willing to help out in any way he could no matter the situation, Wayne would put others before himself. Wayne worked most of his life in the construction field as a carpenter. Wayne also loved the outdoors, gardening, playing his drums which he loved to play praise and worship music and most of all Wayne loved to share the Word of God to everyone and anyone who would listen. Wayne continuously let his light shine even through his battle with cancer. If there was an opportunity to glorify God, Wayne took it. Wayne is survived by his best friend and wife of 35 years, Diann "Dede" Smith, one brother: Jim Watson of Lakeland, FL (Trish), two sons: Fonzie Wayne Smith, Jr. of GA (Michelle), and Michael Lee Smith of GA (Tammy), six grandkids, two aunts: Gladys Walker and Doris Evert of TX, and numerous brothers and sisters in Christ across this world. Wayne is preceded in death by his father: Fonzie Edward Smith, mother: Winnie Mae Watson, sisters: Betty Ann Lawson, Matha Ann Matheny, Carolyn Annette Michel, and brother: Ronald Smith. A celebration of Wayne's life will take place at Winter Haven Church of God located at 675 Avenue E.
