Evangelyn Ann Polson

August 23, 1924 — April 26, 2016

Evangelyn (Vangie) Ann Polson, age 91, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in Sebring, Florida. She was born to Maurice and Dorothy Durnam in Mountain, Wisconsin where she grew up with an older brother and a younger sister. Her father was a pastor of several small churches in Northern Wisconsin and later in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, a suburb of North Minneapolis. So Vangie grew up hearing God’s Word preached at an early age, and she also developed a love of music. She learned to play the trombone in high school, and it was in band that Edwin (Pat) Polson started to be interested in her, and she in him. After graduating from high school, Edwin joined the Army Air Force, and on one of his furloughs, they got married. Near the end of World War II, he was sent overseas and on one of his flights, he crashed and lost his life. Vangie never remarried, but for the next thirty years she dedicated her life to missionary service working with the Muslim people in South India. Her main focus was teaching young girls and evangelizing women through Bible study groups. She retired to the SIM Retirement Village in Sebring, Florida, in September, 1992, where she became an active member of Southside Baptist Church. Vangie is survived by her sister, Janet Breman of Gainesville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin in 1945 and a brother, John in 2011 in Keene, New Hampshire. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 10:00 am at the SIM Retirement Village Chapel in Sebring, Florida. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to SIM USA, 4114 Nigeria Street, Sebring, Florida 33875
