Obituary

Ernest Bruce Tippett, age 79, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026, in Sebring, Florida. He was born on May 22, 1946, in Franklin, North Carolina, to Jess and Regina (Woody) Tippett. Ernest proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an avid fisherman who loved hunting, was a man of faith, and cherished the time he spent with his family. Having retired from General Motors he and his beloved wife became snowbird residents of Sebring, Florida, while maintaining permanent residence in Brown City, Michigan. Ernie was known for his honesty, words of wisdom (Ernieisms), and positivity. He coached many seasons of softball and baseball and is fondly remembered by the players even 40 years later. His greatest joy was his wife and family. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Tippett; his two children, Michelle Lyons (Tom) of Brown City, Michigan, and Zackary Tippett (Serina) of Knoxville, Tennessee; and his sister, Wanda Brinkman of Sterling Heights, Michigan. He is also survived by four grandchildren (Emma, Claire, Anna, and Savannah) and one great-grandchild (Maeve). Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, John Tippett and Claude Tippett. Donations may be made to a veteran’s charity of your choice or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
