EMERSON M. SONNY CLAVEL Emerson Maurice Sonny Clavel, 81, passed away Saturday, October 16 in Lake Placid. Sonny was born on November 5, 1928 to Emerson Staebner Clavel and Gladys Carlton Clavel and was a native and lifelong resident of Wauchula, FL. He attended the University of Florida and was a well known pilot and crop-duster in Central Florida where he was often spotted flying his beloved World War II Stearman Rags. He had a lifelong love of airplanes and was a member and sometime president of the Antique Airplane Association. Sonny is survived by his wife and love of 60 years, Hazel Brantley Dutchie Clavel; daughters: Gloria Davis and husband, Joe L. Davis, Jr of Wauchula, Melanie Shackelford of Parrish, Suzanne Clavel of Tampa, and Maureen Clavel, of New York, NY. He is also survived by four granddaughters: Laurel Davis of Boston, MA, Ashley Davis of New York, NY, Savannah Davis of Estepona, Spain and Devin Shackelford of Gainesville, FL. Sonny was much beloved and will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 22 at the First United Methodist Church in Wauchula.
