Elizabeth Louise Bell

April 23, 1932 — December 23, 2017

Elizabeth Louise Bell was born on April 23, 1932 in Key West Florida. Just before dawn on Saturday December 23rd Elizabeth slipped free of the cocoon constraints of this world, spread her new angelic butterfly wings and finally reunited with those she had for so long desired to be with again. Her parents, Leland and Verlot (Sawyer) Roberts gave her the persevering character and determined nature of being a “Conch”. After graduating from high school Elizabeth was employed by Monroe General Hospital in Key West eventually meeting the requirements to be designated a licensed practical nurse. On January 20, 1950 she married Archie Junior Bell who was a member of the United States Navy. After the birth of their first child, Dennis in 1952 Elizabeth dedicated her life to being a mother and housewife. In the ensuing years she and Archie had two other children and remained in their beloved Key West until February 1979 when they relocated to Avon Park, FL. As a mother, grandmother and great grandmother Elizabeth created a happy welcoming home regardless of the address. She shared her love of cooking with each new generation of her family creating life-long memories and continuing family traditions. Many of her happiest moments were welcoming her children and their families back “home” and tirelessly planning and preparing their favorite dishes for them. She truly embodied the titles Grand Mother and Great Grand Mother. She was the best of mothers selflessly sacrificing for her children; however, she was absolutely thrilled to care for and spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren leaving them with wonderful memories to comfort them at this time of grief. She loved all of us unconditionally and proved it time after time. After the passing of her husband in 2003 she moved to Lehigh Acres, FL. We are blessed beyond measure to have had her influence and love in our lives for as long as we did although nothing short of forever is ever long enough. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her loved husband of 53 years, Archie, their son Dennis, and her parents Leland Roberts I and Verlot (Sawyer) Roberts and her sisters Phyllis Aguero and Miriam Hall. She is survived by her brother Leland (Robin) Roberts II, her daughters Elizabeth (Joseph) Russell and Carol (Glenda Hensley) Bell. Seven grandchildren, Troy (Lily) Bell of Gainesville, FL, Jennifer Demeritt of MI, Brad (Karly) Bell of Gainesville, FL, Andrew Demeritt of MI, Ami Bell of Gainesville, FL, Joseph (Kila) Bell of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Alli Bell of Gainesville, FL; 7 great granddaughters and 2 great grandsons as well as numerous nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews who fondly remember aunt Libby.
