Elgin O'Neal Thomas, Jr, age 72 passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 31. 2020 in Sebring, FL. He was born April 9, 1948 in Birmingham, AL to Elgin O'Neal Thomas, Sr. And Rowe Poynter Thomas. He served in Civilian Air Patrol in his youth and attended Samford University in Birmingham. He served his country in the US Navy for 26 years until retirement. Following his retirement from the Navy, he worked for International Paper Company in Franklin, VA until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion. He loved music, especially listening to his wife play the organ. Whatever he was doing, he would always stop and go into the living room and sit whenever she began playing.
He enjoyed model trains and electronics. He was a big NASCAR fan. Elgin is survived by his loving wife , Melody Warskow Thomas, daughters, Celeste Hartman (Ryan) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Ranelle Chandler of Sebring, FL, granddaughters, Caitlin and Emmalin Hartman. Sister, Catherine Grier of Lexington, KY, Brother Charles Robert Thomas (Gail) of Lake City, FL and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Elgin had been a Florida resident for nine years, formerly living in Virginia. He was of Presbyterian Faith. Visitation will be held at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 11 AM. Services will follow at 12 PM. Services by Pastor Maureen V. Baker. Music by Jaquae Sands.
