Ekaete Ubong Nkan, aged 63, of Sebring, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. She was born on September 30, 1962, in Mbiokporo II, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria to Okon Paul (late) and Alice Paul (late), but raised by her uncle Paul Bassey (late) and aunt Elizabeth Bassey in Kinshasa, Zaire. After graduating from TASOK (The American School of Kinshasa) in 1982, she secured employment with the Personnel Department at the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa. She worked there until 1987, when she got married and transferred to the U.S. Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria. In 2001, after fourteen (14) years at the U.S. Embassy in Lagos, she moved her family to the U.S.A. While in the U.S.A., she was employed as a Unit Secretary in various hospital systems in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Sebring, FL. As a Jehovah’s Witness, Ekaete had a deep passion for serving Jehovah. She loved sharing the good news of God's Kingdom and listening to the Kingdom Melodies. Ekaete also loved spending time with family and friends, cooking, and traveling (especially cruising). Although Ekaete has fallen asleep in death, our hearts are comforted by her unwavering faith in the Bible's promise of a paradise earth. We look forward to the wonderful resurrection hope found at John 5:28, 29, when Jehovah will remember and welcome Ekaete back to life in perfect health. Ekaete is survived by her husband, Ubong Nkan; her children, Edikan Ubong Nkan and Ime Ubong Nkan; her granddaughter, Naomi Nkan; her sisters, Grace Paul-Xavier, Elizabeth Okon Atwell, Mary Akpan, and Mary Idongesit Bassey; her brothers, Emmanuel Okon Paul and Jacob Paul Bassey; her sisters-in-law Gisele Basunu Paul, and Angela Bassey; her brothers-in-law Cecil Xavier, and Adetunji Omole (TJ). She is also survived by her nephew, Christopher Emmanuel Paul and his wife Kiara Paul, and their sons Shia Paul and Zaire Paul; her nieces, Allyse Ekaete Paul, Imaobong Matondo Paul, and Enobong Kimia Paul; other cousins, aunts and uncles.
