Edward John Tomek died on October 16, 2015. Ed was born in Larksville, PA, on October 11, 1931. He was predeceased by his parents George and Genevieve (Radzavicz) Tomek and brother and sister-in-law Robert and Alma Tomek. He is survived by his wife Ruth of 64 years, daughters Becky (Dan) Johnson and Sylvia (Rick) Hayes, sons Steve (Sandy) and George; grandchildren Jennifer (Mark) Lacienski, Daniel and Andy Johnson, Stephen (Mychelle) Tomek, Callie (Dwayne) Hutson and Corrie (Rob) Foreman; great grandchildren Paige Tomek, Skyla, Layla, Rayla, and Van Hutson, and Julia Grace Foreman; Extended family includes Wendy and Herby, Sadie and Allen Dixon, Ricky and Heidi Hayes, Nikki Wiltsie and Daegon, Shelby and Rylee Bertka. He leaves four nephews in Pennsylvania, Paul, Richard David and Robert Tomek and their families. Ed enlisted in the Air Force in 1949 and was sent to the Avon Park Bombing Range in 1951. Soon after he met and married Ruth Elder in 1952. Ed worked for the W.S. Badcock Furniture Corporation and later bought the Avon Park business in 1978. He built a new Badcock store on Highway 27 and moved in June 1986. Ed retired after fifty years in the furniture business in August 2003. For many years Ed was an avid bowler and enjoyed the camaraderie of league bowling. He bowled a perfect 300 game on December 16, 1993. At the time it was a world record. Ed's games were 289, 288 and 300 that night! Ed was a member of the Noon Rotary club and served as treasurer for many years. He served on the board of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for many years and was a founding member of the parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as past Grand Knight. Ed was well known in the community and leaves behind many friends. Family visitation will be held at Stephenson Nelson Funeral Home on Monday, October 19 from 7:00pm until 9:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, October 20 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with burial at Bougainvillea Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church Service Center or the Good Shepherd Hospice Somers House.
