He was born on November 12, 1932 in Queens, NY to the late Edward Castine, Sr. and Anna Castine (nee Susterilsch). Ed was a teacher (par excellence) for many years. As a young teacher and throughout his career he taught in the service of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He taught in Clifton, NJ and filled the post of Assistant Principal Business Manager, Dean of Discipline while still teaching high-power math. Upon moving to Florida he taught in St. Thomas Acquinas H.S. in Fort Lauderdale and retired from there. He was a dedicated teacher and was loved and respected by his students, fellow faculty members, parents, administrators, and many friends. While still teaching, Ed was always busy. On the side-lines, he drove students to the football games, worked as a Ham-radio operator, wood-working, and was an avid camper. In 1978 he married the love of his life, Maureen Casey. He affectionately called her “Moe”. In August they would have been married 38 years. A funeral mass will be offered on Thursday, March 10th at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church: 595 East Main St. Avon Park. He will be buried in the Memorial Garden at the church they love so dearly. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church; Humane Society; or Animal Control which he and Maureen loved and supported.
