Earl L. Anderson

April 15, 1926 — June 29, 2014

Earl L. Anderson, age 88, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014 in Sebring, FL. He was born on April 15, 1926 to Frank and Elizabeth Eggleston Anderson in Centerville, Pennsylvania where he lived for most of his life. Earl married June E. Vorse on December 22, 1949. While living in Pennsylvania, Earl (nick-named Sleepy) was employed at the Centerville Hardware. He had a lifelong interest in mechanics; helping friends and family with vehicle repairs. He owned and restored antique automobiles which he exhibited proudly at several events throughout the years. Sleepy belonged to the Penn-Ohio Model A Ford Club, AACA Pennsylvania Oil Region and was a lifetime member of the Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society in Saegertown, PA. His gift as a mechanic led to employment in that position for Penndot in Centerville. While residing in Pennsylvania, Earl was a member of Centerville Baptist Church. After retiring from Penndot, he and his wife June moved to Florida. During the first years living in Florida, Sleepy was involved in what were called "Ma and PA Shows". Individuals sharing interest in antique mechanical items came together by invitation on several different private properties for the Ma and PA Shows. Earl displayed old toys and tools and even sold some new tools. Sleepy along with others in this group began to look for a permanent home. They combined with others sharing similar interests and became members of Florida Flywheelers Antique Engine Club. That facility grew and Earl partnered with many others to help build The Village as part of the Florida Flywheelers show grounds. The Village has barns, garages and other buildings to explore. The Sheriffs Department in The Village was where Earl was able to display many interesting items from the past. Visitors to the Sheriffs Department has the opportunity to listen to Sleepy's stories and jokes as he greeted them on its porch. Earl also enjoyed spending time and sharing in fellowship with his many friends at Sunridge Baptist Church in Sebring. Earl was preceded in death by both parents and his brother Thomas F. Anderson. Earl will be missed by his wife of 64 years, June Vorse Anderson, their children: Dennis Anderson and wife Susan of Corry, PA; Joanne Anderson Davis and husband Myrl "Tuck" Davis of Titusville, PA; Dan Anderson and wife Ginny of Centerville, PA; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; other family members and many friends. Memorials services at Sunridge Baptist Church in Sebring, FL and in Centerville, PA will be planned at a later date. Cremation Arrangements entrusted to: Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home of Sebring (863) 385-0125 www.stephensonnelsonfh.com
