Dutton Verl Shaw, age 100, of Lake Placid, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025. Born in Tampa, Florida, on November 26, 1924, he was the son of the late Madison and Bertha Shaw.
A proud veteran, Mr. Shaw served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II, taking part in the historic Invasion of Japan aboard the USS Missouri. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to public service, working as an auditor for both county and state government before retiring in 1982.
Since 1977, he made his home in Lake Placid, Florida, where he continued to enjoy a quiet and thoughtful life filled with his many passions. He was a devoted University of Florida Gator football fan, a knowledgeable student of history, and an avid collector of guns and knives. Above all, he found great joy in reading and studying the Bible, drawing strength and wisdom from his faith.
Mr. Shaw shared 75 years of devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Flora Mave Singleton Shaw, whom he first met as a child in a railroad camp. Their deep and enduring love was the foundation of a life built on family, commitment, and mutual respect.
He is survived by two cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who carry forward his legacy of resilience, integrity, and devotion. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Flora, his son Verl Shaw, and his daughter Florinda Shaw.
Dutton Verl Shaw will be remembered for his steadfast service, enduring love for his family, and unwavering faith.
