Duane Burton May

Duane Burton May, age 94, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in Sebring, Florida. He was born and raised in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of James and Madelene May. Duane attended Central High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S Navy. Duane married his high school sweetheart Carolyn Jean Gibbs in May ofvc 1952. He adopted Carolyn’s two daughters Kay and Becky from a previous marriage. Together they had one son, Bruce. In 1960 he purchased May Hardware and moved to Bellevue, Michigan. After 19 years of working at the hardware store they semi-retired and moved to Marble Lake Quincy. Duane worked part-time at Nelson Hardware in Portage, Michigan and wintered in Sebring, Florida before moving to Sebring. Duane is survived by his daughters Kay Norton (Harold) of Sebring, Fla; Becky Gannon of Mascot, Tenn; a brother, Ronald May (Charline) of Ceresco, Mich. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Tim Conlogue (Mary), Shannon Miller (Jim), Gary Justice (Tia), Randy Justice (Jennifer); Traci Justice; 17 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years Carolyn Gibbs May; a son, Bruce May; parents, James and Madelene May; a brother, Robert May; granddaughter, Denise Cheseldine. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for the family.
