Donald D. Stokes

Donald Dewayne Stokes passed from this life after a long battle with Parkinson's disease on May 4, 2017. He was born March 27, 1936 in Avon Park, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents: Claude Daniel Stokes and Doris Elizabeth Hill; brothers: Robert D. Stokes, Edwin C. Hill and James W. Hill. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Ann and sons: Donald L. Stokes of Sebring and Darrell D. Stokes of Orlando; brother: David Hill (Sylvia) of Sebring; and sister: Mary Biehl (Randy) of Carrollton, KY. Donald was a graduate of Sebring High School, a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Sebring. He worked in Tele-Communications beginning with Inter-Co Telephone Company and the companies that followed for 46 years retiring from Sprint in September 2001. Donald loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and working in his yard. He especially loved planting trees. He would say "plant a tree, watch it grow and relax under its shade." In lieu of flowers, family asked that memorial contributions go to: Good Shepherd Hospice, Bud and Donna Sommers Hospice House, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870 or Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018. A private graveside service was held at Hart Cemetery, Sunday, May 7, 2017. Dr. Gerald E. Simmons officiated.
