Donald "Don" Ion Coppage

Donald "Don" Ion Coppage, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 9, 2024, in Lakeland, FL. He was born on September 29, 1940, in Dundee, KY, to the late Marvin and Calais Coppage. In 2004, Don and his wife Lavonne moved to Sebring, FL, from their hometown of Dundee, KY.

Don's life was marked by dedication and love, which he shared generously with those around him. He was a devoted husband to Lavonne Coppage, his wife of 65 years, a cherished father to Jeff Coppage of Sebring, FL, and a loyal brother-in-law to Doris Swihart of Sebring, FL. Don’s legacy continues through his grandchild, Haley Egerton, and her husband Brian of Mayfield, KY, as well as his great-grandchild, Luke Thomas Edgerton.

Don is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Noel Eugene Coppage. He was a respected member of the Sebring Parkway Church of Christ and was honored as a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor for his exemplary service and contributions.

Professionally, Don was a dedicated teacher, imparting knowledge and inspiring countless students throughout his career. He was also an avid fan of the University of Kentucky basketball team and the Atlanta Braves baseball team. Don had a passion for collecting vinyl records and a deep appreciation for Bluegrass music.

Don will be remembered for his intelligence, competitiveness, loyalty, and loving nature. His friends and family will always cherish his caring and dedicated spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life  to honor Don will be held at the Sebring Parkway Church of Christ, 3800 Sebring Pkwy, Sebring, FL on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 2:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests just your presence to celebrate his life.
