Donald J Guiney

Donald Jame Guiney "Don", 80 passed away peacefully in his home in Lake Placid, FL, surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 28th after a courageous battle against cancer. He was born February 7th, 1930 in McKeesport, PA to Robert James Guiney and Beulah Elizabeth (Sigley) Guiney. He graduated from Horace Mann High School in Gary, IN and continued his studies at Indiana University where he majored in Marketing. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and the Business Honorary Alpha Chi Psi. Upon graduation in 1952 me married Evelyn Olander and shortly thereafter began his military career in the U.S. Navy where he served on the aircraft carrier The Coral Sea for 40 months. After his discharge from the Navy he worked for U.S. Steel in Gary as a computer programmer on the UNIVAC I. In 1960 he moved to Dayton, Ohio to begin a career at NCR where he remained until he retired in 1987. He moved to Lake Placid, FL in 1991 and settled in Tropical Harbor Estates where he was very active in many of the mobile home park activities over the years. He was also a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lake Placid. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Evelyn; and their children, Lynn, Robert and his wife Laura, and Janet Marman and her husband Brad and 5 grandchildren, Bill, Carrie, Dan Guiney and Colin and Kyle Marman. Don was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who instilled the importance of true family values to all who knew him.
