Dr. Donald F. Jones, 79, of Avon Park, Florida, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at his home. He was born August 7, 1932, to Orin and Myrtle Jones, in Lakeland, Florida and graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Navy/Marines 1950-1954. He attended undergraduate school at the University of Florida; attended Tulane Medical School 1957-1960 and served his Internship and Surgery residency at Mobile General Hospital 1961-1966. He was in Medical Practice with Bond Clinic in Winter Haven, FL, where he served as Vice-Chairman in the Surgical Department of Winter Haven Hospital in 1968 and Chairman of the Surgery Department in 1969. He then moved to Avon Park and joined Walker Memorial Hospital and entered into private surgical practice for 35 years in Highlands County. He served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Florida Hospital; Chief of Surgery at Highlands Regional Hospital; was a member of Diplomat Board of Surgery; Highlands Medical Association FMA and AMA and a member of the Southeastern Surgical Congress. He is survived by his wife, Nell Jones of Avon Park; daughters, Chrissy (Michael) Denmark, Tybee Island, GA and Darlene (Howard) Sizemore, Avon Park, FL; step-son, Steve Brock, Avon Park, FL; step-daughter, Elaine Gainous,, Avon Park, FL; grandsons, Dusty (Laura) Johnson and Geoff Johnson; step-grandchildren, Rachael Rosa; Kristy (Doug) Ogburn; Justin (Angie) Brock; step-great-grandchildren, Angelina; Dominic; Mary Elizabeth Rosa; Kadi Lynn and Brock Michael Ogburn. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, with Chaplain Harry Bennett officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.
