Deon Ray Eaton, age 83, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 in Sebring, FL. He was born on February 9, 1938 in Murphysboro, IL to William Hester and Beatrice Lucille ( Wetherington ) Eaton. He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation. Deon served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 – 1962. He served on the USS BON HOMME RICHARD carrier while in the Navy. He served as president of both the Murphysboro Jaycee's and United Fund chapter. He was president of Pressmen's Union 418. Camp Director of Modern Woodmen. He served as a deacon in a Baptist church for many years. Deon was recognized in Outstanding Young Men of America. Member of Lake Bonnet Ringers, and was a local and state champion while placing in the National and World Horseshoe Association. Deon was a member of the American Legion Post 69 of Avon Park, FL, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4300 VFW of Sebring, FL. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Sebring, FL, and the Sebring Elks #1529. He really enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with his family, and holiday gatherings with his grandchildren. Most of all he loved to dance with Marilyn. If there was a dance floor, he was on it. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; Sons- Keith Eaton (June) of Paducah, KY; Kent Eaton (Bibi) of Carterville, IL; Daughter, Julie Eaton-Dishner of Santa Monica, CA; Sister, Priscilla Holyfield of SC; Surviving are also 7 grandchildren, Brandy Madding (Slade), Kristopher Eaton, Luke Eaton (Whitney), Connor Eaton, David Eaton, Briauna Dishner, Justin Dishner (Ashley), and 3 great grandchildren; London McDowell, Noah McDowell, Atlas Madding, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Patricia “Patsy” Davis.
Interment will be held with Military Honors at Bay Pines National Cemetery located at 10000 Bay Pines Blvd St Petersburg, FL 33708 on April 15, 2022 at 2:30pm.
