Dennis "Swede" E. Larson, age 88, passed into eternity on Monday, September 19, 2022 in Sebring, Florida. The cause of death was heart disease. He was born on November 11, 1933 in Rockford, Illinois, to Lee and Elsa (Senobe) Larson. The family moved to Woodstock, Illinois in 1937. Dennis graduated from Woodstock High School in 1951 and served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. After his service in the Army, he earned degrees from the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) and Northern Illinois University. He worked in sales and marketing for most of his career. After moving to Sebring for his retirement years, he worked part time for the United States Census Bureau as a census field representative. He enjoyed reading, and his favorite subjects were history and politics. He also enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the Sebring Bridge Club. He loved to dance, especially the jitterbug, and he played tennis into his late 70’s. He was known for his loquacious personality and his sweet tooth. He loved Chicago and was a lifelong Cubs and Bears fan. While he was living in Illinois, he especially enjoyed attending outdoor music concerts at Ravinia. In particular, he was a fan of classical and jazz music. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Gallo (Frank) and Hali Blair (Jason), and his nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gail Larson, and his older brother, Robert Larson. He leaves behind a number of friends in Sebring who were a blessing to him and very generous with their time. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunny Hills Assisted Living and Compassionate Care Hospice for their loving care and acts of kindness during Dennis’ final months.
A memorial service will be held in Sebring at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Habitat for Humanity (or the charity of your choice).
