Dennis Stephen Hennegan, of Spotsylvania, VA, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2016, in Sebring, FL. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, on October 31, 1937, he was the oldest son of John J. and Christina Gill Hennegan. Dennis proudly served in the US Navy for 24 years and then continued his support of the Navy with his work at Newport News Shipbuilding until retiring in 1999. Dennis was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Louisa Co., VA, as well as a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and proudly served Council 11262 in Mineral, VA.
Dennis was predeceased by his son, Glenn, and his sisters, Sheila and Patricia. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sue Madowitz Hennegan, his daughters and their husbands, Lynn and Barry Fraser and Kellie and John Chilbert. He also leaves behind his six grandchildren: Susan Hennegan, John Hennegan, Kathryn Fraser, Lisa Gregory, Shannon Gregory, Andrew Fraser; four great-grandchildren: Rylie Holzworth, Gabriella Lugo, Joshua Birch, Isabella Lugo; and his faithful dog, Dexter. Dennis is also survived by five siblings (Tucker, Maureen, Rosemary, Mary and Michael) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be determined at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Dennis’ memory to the charity of your choice.
