Pete, age 87 was born in Sarasota, Florida to the late Gertrude Beatrice McGee and D. C. Kelley, Sr. on March 31, 1929. He served his country during World War II in Japan as a staff sergeant. He was man’s man who could build or repair anything. He was a heavy equipment operator, caladium farmer and citrus grower. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was a lifelong resident of Lake Placid and a member of Faith Baptist Church. Survivors include his three daughters, Debra Kelley Elliott, (Donald)-Lake Placid, FL, Kathy Kelley Garner (Terry, D.V.M.)-Venice, FL, and Kellie Kelley-Lake Placid, FL; six grandchildren, Donna (Robert) Garcia, Matt (Sharla) Elliott, Heidi (Rod) Davis, Kelley (Amber) Garner, D.V.M., Justin Davis “Boots” (Margaret) Garner and Jessica (Matthew) Garner Heiny; eight great-grandchildren, Andee Garcia, Mattie Garcia, Riley Garner, Aynsley Davis, Tristan Davis, Molly Elliott, Scarlett Garner, Keegan Heiny and Finn Garner; nieces, Stephanie Underwood, Lynda Paul, Terry Sutton,; nephews, Stephen Davis, John Davis, Michael Davis, Calvin Turner, Kenneth Turner, Corbin Davis. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maxine, his parents, his brother, Jack Kelley and his sister, Helen Turner, nieces and nephews, Lonnie Hays, Hargaret Davis, Keith Kelley, Sharon Vargas and Sheila Vargas. Pallbearers are grandsons and grandson-in-laws, Matt Elliott, Kelley Garner, Justin (Boots) Garner, Robert Garcia, Rod Davis and Matthew Heiny; Honorary Pallbearers, Richard Head, Stephen Davis, John Davis, Michael Davis, Alan Underwood, Corbin Davis. There will be a funeral service on Thursday, March 2, 2017, 11:00 AM at Faith Baptist Church of Lake Placid with Reverend Bill Cole officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
