David L. Groover of Okeechobee, FL was born on November 24, 1932. Mr. Groover passed Saturday September 17, 2011 in Macon, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tony Chester Groover and Lillie Groover of West Palm Beach, FL, his wife of 30 years, Katie M. Groover , four sisters, two brothers, and three grandchildren. He is survived by four daughters: Leila Wilkerson, Debbie Lefevers (David), Ethel Jones (Steve), and Phyllis Murdock (Jerry); ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Mr. Groover served honorably over 30 years as a firefighter, first as a member of the U.S. Air Force and then in civil service. He retired in 1982, after 17 years with Robins Air Force Base in Georgia . He received numerous recognitions for his dedicated service, outstanding leadership and exemplary character throughout his career. Mr. Groover was a humble and loving husband, father and grandfather, uncle and friend. He taught us all that the simplest things in life are what matter most. For him, his greatest riches were things like spending time with family and friends or going fishing on a warm sunny day. He will always be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, humor, and unwavering devotion to others. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday September 21, 2011 at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday September 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Corinth Primitive Baptist Church in the Berea Community, followed by graveside service in the church cemetery.
