Darrel R. Young

Darrel R. Young, 85, of Sebring, FL passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Darrel was born in Clendenin, WV to the late Darrell E. and Virginia A. (Oliver) Young on June 21, 1933. Darrel was a graduate of Clendenin High School and Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston) with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Prior to his college admission, Darrel served in the U.S. Army as a Cryptographer and was stationed in Germany. When living in West Virginia, Darrel attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church located in Elkview, WV, where he was saved accepting Jesus Christ as His Lord & Savior. Darrel was a witness for God and shared the gospel wherever he went. He was also a published author on Amazon.com, having written "Six hours with God" after having an after death experience. The "Good News" of the Gospel and sharing his after death experience were a passion of his and his desire was to bring souls to Christ and all glory to God. Darrel has been a resident of Highlands County since 2001, coming from Charleston, WV. Darrel during his lifetime was an insurance agent, a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, and if the writer recalls correctly, the youngest insurance agent at that time to ever become a member, a financial consultant, and also a coal operator owning a couple of mining companies. Darrel enjoyed golf and singing at churches and nursing homes. Darrel also enjoyed spending time at home with his wife. Both mutually enjoyed singing gospel songs together and would spend hours practicing or just singing for the fun of it.  Darrel attended Christ Fellowship Church in Sebring. Survivors include: Wife of 62 years; Helen Young-Sebring, FL, children; Darren Young-Sebring, FL and Grace Ann Miller- Elkview, WV and two grandchildren; Nicholas A. Keener and Tucker S. Keener. Darrel was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings; William Eugene Young, Ruth Elizabeth Moles and James C. Young. Services will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 with a visitation beginning at 9:30 am and the service to follow at 10:00 am at Stephenson Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Avon Park, FL. Memorial contributions can be made to the VFW, Post 4300, 1041 Lakeview Dr, Sebring FL 33870.
