Daphne Doreen Socha

Daphne Doreen Socha, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2022 in Sebring, Florida. She was born on January 24,1933 in Islington, England. Growing up in Southgate, England, Daphne met her handsome, soon-to-be husband at a dance hall after the war. They danced many more times through their 66 years of marriage. She came to the US in 1954 on the steamship Liberte, following Joseph who arrived a few years earlier. She worked as a skilled seamstress in NYC for several years after which they moved to Jackson, NJ where she raised four children and continued to work with her husband at his tailoring shop in Lakewood. She learned to drive late in life but studied and practiced, becoming a school bus driver in Lakewood where she worked until retirement. She attended St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, and has been a resident of Sebring, FL since 1998. Over the years Daphne enjoyed dancing, gardening, knitting and many, many beloved animals. Mom loved all animals. Daphne was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Socha, her parents Alfred James and Ethel (King) Wood and her brothers Arthur (Norrie) Wood and Denis (Peggy) Wood. She leaves behind her 2 siblings: Iris (Alan) Smith and Clifford Wood, her four children: Michael Socha of Cudjoe Key, FL, Marian (Patrick) Jordan of Linwood, NJ, John Socha of Sebring, FL and Edward (Lynn) Socha of Bushkill, PA.; her 2 grandchildren: Colin Jordan and Valerie (Jason) Smith;  and many nieces and nephews.
