Cora Imogene Brines passed away November 29, 2014 in Sebring, Florida. She was born March 10, 1922 to Goldie Neva (Landis) and Oval L. Hawf as St. Francisville, Illinois. She graduated from Mt. Carmel, IL High School and worked at General Telephone Co. and Meissner Mfg. Company until 1946 when she married Olin Thompson Brines of Albion, Illinois where they made their home. In Albion she worked temporarily for an abstract company then for the Agriculture Department for several years. She was the first Executive Director of Edwards County Housing Authority, resigning due to their move to Florida in 1970 where they and their children owned and operated The Freeze King, a sandwich and soft ice cream shop, until her husband's death. After selling the business she worked for the Florida Department of Corrections for 14 ½ years before retiring. She is survived by two daughters: Pamela Dakan of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Deborah Walley and husband Cecil of Sebring, Florida. One son: Daniel Brines of Sebring, Florida, three grandsons: Aaron Dakan, Jeremy Dakan, Daniel Scott Brines, three granddaughters: Melissa Walley Packwood, Amber Walley Martin, Karyl Walley Hobbs, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Cora was predeceased by her parents, husband: Olin T. Brines, sisters: Nelma Hawf and Kathleen Hawf Straw, and brother Rev. Herschel Hawf. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park. A funeral service will be held at a later date with Ingram Funeral Home in Albion, IL in charge.
