Connie Jo Hammel passed away to Glory on Wednesday January 17, 2024 at the age of 88. She was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church of Sebring, Florida since 2001. Connie loved her church and was very active in the Sunday School classes. Her hobbies included fishing and hunting. She enjoyed firearms and was an expert marksman. She devoted time to building homes for Habitat for Humanity. Connie also worked with her husband as a certified travel agent, leading tours into Mexico, the Baja Peninsula, Alaska and the Lower Forty Eight.
She is survived by her loving husband Sam; son -Craig Viers of Ashland, KY; daughter – Carla Jo Guido of Ashland, KY; step-daughters – Fay Hammel of Jacksonville, FL; Lana Johnson of Elkton, MD. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was proceeded in Glory by her father and mother, Harold and Reba (Vickers) Nelson; sister – (Flo) Florence Joan Smith; brother – Ronald (Blue) Nelson. She was born on January 8, 1936 in Boone County, West Virginia. Connie worked as an RN (nurse) for 44 years plus with Kings Daughters Hospital in Ashland, KY and with West Virginia Health Department in Wetzel and Tyler Counties, West Virginia .
A visitation will be held on Wednesday January 24, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M at Maranatha Baptist Church in Sebring, Florida. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
