Clyde David Hicks

November 14, 1946 — June 27, 2013

Clyde D. Hicks died on Thursday, June 27 in Sebring, FL. He was 66. A native Floridian and long time resident and business owner, Clyde was born in Port Saint Joe, Florida on November 14, 1946 to Clyde and Lillie Hicks, also deceased. He is also predeceased by his brother, L.M. Hicks (Doc). Although the disease Amyotrophic (Latersal Schlerosis) Lou Gehrig's Disease took his life, he will be ever present in the hearts of his beloved family: loving wife and devoted caregiver, Dorothy Hicks, adoring daughters, Crystal Hicks May and Lisa Hicks Waggoner, son-in-law, Michael Waggoner, grandson, Landen Carter, sisters Elizabeth Bass and Annette Hicks, brothers Millard Hicks and Billy Hicks and many nieces and nephews. Clyde's ever present smile, heartfelt stories, sometimes funny jokes and witness for God, lifted the spirits of anyone who spent time with him. Clyde loved his church, his community and his customers at Hicks Oil Company. Throughout his life, whether he was teaching Sunday School, singing in church, traveling with friends, gigging flounder, or spending time with his grandson, Clyde just made everything a little more fun-a little more special. Because of the help and support that Clyde and Dorothy received from the ALS Association after his diagnosis and the many friends they made through the support groups, Clyde and Dorothy became passionate about raising money to support the efforts of this organization. The family asks that rather than flowers, donations in memory of Clyde be made to ALSA. Donations can be made to the Clyde Hicks ALS Fund at any Heartland National Bank location, online at webfl.alsa.org, or by mail to: The ALS Association, Development Department, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 250, Calabassa Hills, CA 91301 or by phone at (888) 949-2577. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park, Florida. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church with Rev. George Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Bougainvillea Cemetery.
