Charles Robert Barker

Charles Bob Robert Barker, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 in Avon Park, Florida. He was born in Cadiz, Ohio to Charles Lemuel and Stella Belle (Carson) Barker. He was a Minister having served the Church of Christ in Dover, Ohio, Avon Park, Florida, Lake Placid, Florida and Frostproof, Florida, he also owned and operated Bobs Furniture Store in Avon Park and served as a security officer for eight years, he was a retired school teacher and school administrator and he also worked for the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home for several years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and had been a resident of Avon Park since 1974 coming from Dover, Ohio. He is survived by his wife-Shirley Ann Barker of Avon Park, Florida; daughters-Dixie Lee Lipscomb (Michael) of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Kristi Ann Polston (Donald) of Sebring, Florida and Rick Barker (Kathy) of Deltona, Florida; Diana Meneely of Avon Park, Florida a friend of over 40 years which he always considered another daughter; sister-Doris Abston (Marvin) of Bradenton, Florida; grandchildren-Deah, Riley, Heather and Hayden; great grandchild-Quinn. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 14, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of Christ with Minister Alin Chapman, Minister Larry Robert and Minister Melvin Barker officiating. Private burial will be in Sarasota National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ Building Fund or Good Shepherd Hospice.
