Cecil Treadway "Dick" Ferguson, Jr., 77, passed away on July 23, 2024, in Avon Park, FL. Born in Roanoke Rapids, NC, he was a beloved figure in his community, known for his kind and gentle soul.

Dick graduated from Avon Park High School before furthering his education at Polk Community College. He dedicated much of his career to library services, working at Avon Park Library, Avon Park Middle School Library, South Florida State University Library, and serving as Assistant Postmaster in Triplet, VA.

A devout member of the First United Methodist Church in Avon Park, Dick actively participated in church activities and found peace and community through his faith. His hobbies included a deep love for trains, often tracking the local train schedules and sharing this passion with others.

Dick enjoyed the annual family gathering at the beach and looked forward to any opportunity to be around his family. He always loved the evenings spent together around the family dinner table and especially the dessert table.

Dick is survived by his loving family: Siblings - Sue Ferguson Davenport (Julian), Mary (Beth) Ferguson Helms (Ricky), Sarah Ferguson Hancock (Lee), and John W. Ferguson; Nieces and nephews – Sarah Jones (Jacob), Rebecca Davenport (Michael Elliot), Glynn Helms (Tonya), Bryan Helms (Audrey Waller), Lindsay Ferguson, and Michael Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil T. Ferguson and Mildred Moore Ferguson.

A family graveside service will be held to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartland Horses Equine Activities and Learning or the First United Methodist Church in Avon Park, reflecting his love for community service and his faith. Dick's legacy of kindness and community involvement will be remembered by all who knew him.
