Carolyn Petrey Cornelius

CORNELIUS, CAROLYN PETREY, 93, passed away July 10, 2010, at the home of her daughter, Dr. Catherine P. Cornelius, in Avon Park, Florida. She was born April 21, 1917, in Petrey, Alabama, to Henry Grady and Susie Robinson Petrey. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Roderick and Karl, and her husband of 66 years, Thomas Burch Cornelius. Raised in Haines City, Florida, she also lived in Zephyrhills, Dade City, Gainesville, Madison, Wauchula, Tampa and Sanford. She enjoyed participating in the Garden Club, Womans Club, UDC, Daughters of the American Revolution and the First United Methodist Church. She was graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, Alabama and also attended the University of Florida. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Catherine P. Cornelius, her son, Dr. William B. Cornelius (Mary), her brothers Roger A. and Harry G. Petrey, her sister Katherine P. Minor, her grandsons William B., Robert B. (Kristen), and Richard B. Cornelius, two great-grandchildren Noah B. and Elijah K. Cornelius, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carolyn will be remembered for her charm, beauty, and quick wit. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the T. Burch and Carolyn P.
