Byron Davant Wever, born on May 12, 1948, in St. Petersburg, FL, passed away on August 25, 2024, in South Pasadena, FL. He was the beloved son of the late Milton and Olive Wever and carried forward a rich family history in his hometown of St. Petersburg.

Byron is survived by his loving wife, Mary Paterson-Wever; his children, Kristin Nelson of Leesburg, FL, and Robert Curry of St. Petersburg, FL; his cherished grandson, Gabe; and his first wife, Carol Carone Wever. His playful dachshund, Maisy III, was a constant companion who brought joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Milton, Marylan, Donrue and Gary

At the age of 21, Byron became the youngest autobroker in the state of Florida, marking the beginning of a lifelong passion for cars. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to purchase property at 5501 34th St N in St. Petersburg, where he formed a partnership with his lifelong friend Cary Palmer to establish Wever/Palmer Autobrokers. When Cary eventually bought the business, Byron transitioned to the role of landlord, leasing the property to various auto businesses, a role he continued until his passing.  Also for the last 34 years his love was his wife, Mary and their fur baby.

Byron's love for automobiles extended beyond the business world—he was a walking encyclopedia of racing history and owned numerous sports cars throughout his life. In the 1970s, he pursued his passion as a professional endurance race car driver, competing at major tracks across the United States and Canada. This adventurous spirit was a defining characteristic of Byron's life.

Beyond his automotive pursuits there were many chapters in his life, Byron was an accomplished swimmer, kayaker, and fisherman. He swam laps almost daily, embodying a lifelong dedication and excellence as a master quality swimmer. His adventurous soul led him to travel and live in various locations across the United States, with a particular fondness for the Rocky Mountains. He lived in Montana, California, New Mexico, and Washington before settling in Sebring, FL, where he built a home within earshot of the Sebring International Raceway—a place where the sound of race cars on the track was a constant reminder of his enduring passion.

In this time of sadness of losing him, those who knew and loved Byron are encouraged in the hard days to heed his own words of wisdom: "Tie a knot and hang on." His adventurous, social, dedicated, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all.
