Betty S. Meeker

Meeker, Betty (Jane) Sizer, 85, died February 25, 2012, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 23, 1926 in Barneveld, New York. She was the daughter of Mary Jane Jones and Edwin Dewey Sizer. Betty was of Welsh descent and had traced her familys roots back several generations. She was a 1944 graduate of Holland Patent High School where she was a proud member of the cheerleading squad. She married her high school sweetheart, George H. Meeker, in 1945. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before he died April 22, 2010. They had three sons, George S. (Beverly Rondeau) of Old Forge, New York; Charles J. (Patricia McCarthy) of Milwaukie, Oregon; and Kerry D. (Candice Widger) of Avon Park, Florida. She is survived by her sons, her sister Norma S. Ure of Utica, New York, seven grandchildren (Denise McKeen, George S. Meeker, Jr., Jessica Stewart, Erin Underwood, Josef Meeker, Gregory Meeker and Lisa Beatty). She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren and four nephews (Harold R. and Gerald LeClar, Brian and Dennis Ure.) She retired from Whitesboro Senior High School after working for 15 years in the main office. Betty and George spent 30+ years in Avon Park, Florida and were longstanding members of River Greens Golf Club where she was active in the Gillettes. They also belonged to Glass Hill Golf Club in Trenton, New York for many years. Betty enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and was a 50+year member of DAR. A graveside service will be held at a later date with burial in Carmichael Hill Cemetery in Steuben, New York.
