Betty Jean Humphrey

BETTY JEAN HUMPHREY Betty Jean Humphrey, 84, of Sebring, Florida, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010, in Avon Park. She was born June 5, 1926, to Henry and Della (Smart) Benzel in Walla Walla, Washington, and had been a resident of Sebring since 1972, coming from Highland, Indiana. She was a Sales Person in the garment industry, of the Lutheran faith and was an active volunteer for the Humane Society of Highlands County, Jerrys Kids and The Salvation Army. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Carl E. Humphrey and two sons, Mel and Lon Humphrey. She is survived by her daughters, Carole Jean Stokes, Charlotte, NC and Carleene Marie Humphrey, Ft. Meade, FL; son, William Allen (Tessie) Humphrey, Warrenton, MO; brother, Richard Benzel, Alaska; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The family plans a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, they suggest donations be made in her memory to the Humane Society of the United States.
