Betty Goodwin, 78, of Avon Park, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 10th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 4, 1947, in Tennessee, Betty was proud to be a Grundy County girl. She spent 13 years as a devoted full-time mother before working with the American Red Cross, where she helped servicemen reunite with their families during emergencies. She later worked in the administration office at Jim Oliver’s Smokehouse in Monteagle, Tennessee, where her warmth and dedication were deeply appreciated. Betty loved the simple things in life—admiring her beautiful collection of roses, listening to Patsy Cline, and spending quiet evenings with her beloved dog, Rusty. She found joy in hummingbirds, and their graceful presence will forever remind us of her gentle spirit. She is survived by her three children, Richard Howard Jr., Mary Ann “Howard” Davison, and Ken Howard. Along with her beloved sister, Bonita “Dove” Childers, her eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents James Arnold Dove and Susie L. Bateman and her seven siblings, Jack Dove, Dewey Dove, Claude Dove, Bill Dove, John Dove, Leon Dove, and Bertha “Dove” Boscaino. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 15th at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park. Visitation will be from 11:00-12:00 with funeral services to follow. In her memory, please plant something beautiful or spend a moment watching for hummingbirds—just as she would have loved.
