Betty Jane Gillmore, 81, of Sebring, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025. Born on June 23, 1943, in Flint, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Preger.
Betty began her professional life working as a welder repairperson at General Motors, establishing herself with strength and determination in a male-dominated industry. After years of hard work, she chose to leave her career and return home, embracing with joy her role as a homemaker.
In 1992, following Gerald’s retirement, Betty and Gerald moved to Rose City, Michigan, where they built a beautiful home and barn, creating a haven for their family and their shared life together. From 2004 onward, they spent winters in Sebring, Florida, before settling there permanently in 2020.
Betty was a woman of strength, compassion, and community spirit. She served proudly as the past president of the VFW Auxiliary 6468 in Rose City, Michigan. In her personal time, she found peace and fulfillment in the world of ceramic art. She not only appreciated the beauty of ceramics but also enjoyed creating her own pieces, expressing her creativity through each handmade work. She also enjoyed bowling in leagues with her husband.
Above all, Betty was devoted to her family. She cherished every moment spent with them and took great pride in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Gerald W. Gillmore; her children, Shawn McPeak (David) of La Grange, NC, and Gerald Gillmore, Jr. of Flint Township, MI; her sister, Linda Clay (Bob) of Gastonia, NC; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, and two brothers.
A life well-lived, Betty's legacy of love and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
