Astor Sangalang Asis, 85, of Sebring, Florida, passed away on October 11, 2024. Born on March 13, 1939, in Manila, Philippines, to the late Ricardo and Florentina Asis, Astor’s life was marked by dedication to his family, community, and country.
Astor proudly served as Master Chief in the United States Coast Guard, committing many years to protecting and serving others with unwavering loyalty. In 2014, he and his beloved wife, Elsie Espinosa Asis, moved from New York to Florida, where they continued to build a life together, sharing nearly 60 years of marriage.
Astor is survived by his devoted wife, Elsie, and their loving children: Elaine Espinosa Asis of Sebring, FL; Andrew Espinosa Asis (Maria Belina Asis, MD) of Sebring, FL; and Alex Espinosa Asis (Jeanne Lee Asis) of Middle Village, NY. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Brianna D. Asis, Anthony Asis, Julianna Asis, Bianca Asis, and Jocelynn Asis. He is further survived by his sister, Urbana Asis Payoyo, who will deeply miss him.
Astor was a man of many passions. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed spending his time outdoors, whether fishing, crabbing or jogging through his neighborhood. He was also a gifted bowler, winning a trophy for his mastery of the game, and a devoted sports fan, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. At home, Astor was known for his culinary talents, often bringing joy to his family with his delicious meals.
His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took immense joy in showering them with love. His kind, fun-loving, and strong spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Astor’s legacy of dedication, love, and kindness will live on through his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing him.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 6:30 PM. at St Catherine Catholic Church, 820 Hickory Street, Sebring, FL. Visitation will be on October 21, 2024 at 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM at the Stephenson Nelson Funeral Home Chapel, 4001 Sebring Parkway, Sebring FL.
