Annie Louise Nixon (nee McLoud) was born on January 6, 1916, to parents William and Annie Louise McLoud in Thomasville, Georgia. She joined two older brothers, Edward and William and was later joined by a younger brother, Raiford. She became the adored "princess" of the family surrounded by her loving brothers and parents. Her father was a competent and well-respected plumber and her mother, a beloved homemaker. Her brothers eventually migrated to other places in the United States- William to Dayton, Ohio and Edward and Raiford to New York City. Upon completing her secondary plus education, Annie Louise met and married Samuel C. Nixon. They settled in Sebring, Florida where Annie Louise gave birth to a son, Samuel Nixon, Jr. Mr. Nixon became the principal of E.O. Douglas School, a position he held until the schools were integrated in 1967. He preceded Mrs. Nixon in death in June of 1991. Mrs. Nixon was a librarian in the school system for a short spell. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and of the First Missionary Baptist Church. Her passion was her love of sewing. We are told she began her needle and thread duties early on, sending handmade dresses to her nieces. In her later years she was famous for her request for a specific kind of material, a certain color thread and a particular type of needle to her family and friends. She enjoyed "reshaping" aka "altering" her clothing and making detailed grocery lists with specific brand names (and no substitutes accepted). She also loved the color white - clothing, shoes, accessories - whatever. Her parents, two brothers, Edward and William and their wives, brother Raiford and a nephew preceded her in death. She departed this world very peacefully on January 31, 2014. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son, Dr. Samuel C. Nixon of Atlanta, Georgia, her grandson, Dr. Samuel Nixon, Jr. of California, a granddaughter and their respective families, her sister-in-law, Gwendolyn McLoud of Hackensack, NJ, a nephew, Michael McLoud of Hempstead, Long Island and his family, nieces, Maxine, Gail, Rhonda, Vivian and their families, nephews Edward and Harry and their families, some very special friends who were there for her through the years. A very special thanks to Barbara Walker and Michael Grady who were there these past years attending to her every need as if she were their own family member. The family wishes to give a heartfelt thanks to her Sebring family who are in attendance today and to the staff at The Oaks in Avon Park for all the acts of love and caring extended to her during her later, very difficult years. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 1:00PM at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, Sebring, FL. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Burial will follow service at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Avon Park, FL.
